Project Description

Studio Roso’s installation at the Ames Boutique Hotel in Boston transforms the hotel’s historic lobby into a shimmering spectacle. Suspended delicately from just three points, the chandelier features 12,000 metalized discs attached to a branch-like frame. As visitors enter, the discs flicker and sway in response to subtle movements of air, scattering dynamic shadows and reflections throughout the space.

This contemporary commission enhances the building’s architectural legacy—Boston’s first skyscraper, built in 1893—by echoing both the organic forms of nature and the floral details of the original mosaic ceiling. Seen from below, the chandelier’s slim profile reveals unobstructed views of the historic vaults, while from other angles it gathers into a luminous, cloud-like form. Crafted from mirror-polished aluminium, stainless steel, and metalized mylar, the work merges the old and the new, inviting visitors to experience the Ames’ unique fusion of history and design.
